Vainglory began with a vision to bring an uncompromising MOBA experience to mobile gamers across the world. We wanted to show that touch controls could parallel traditional PC controls and in some cases even surpass them. From our initial release of Kindred, as a beta in Singapore, all the way to the release of 5v5 and our cross-platform vision we have tried to innovate and bring the best possible experience to players. We have been on an incredible journey with you; from our keynote on the Apple stage to having one hundred thousand concurrent viewers for our world championships in 2017. We even have an entire iPhone ad centered around our game.
We’ve learned so much. We were too enthusiastic with our esports programme and whilst it was a wonderful journey it wasn’t sustainable and it didn’t achieve what we thought it might when we initially set out. We’ve struggled to maintain good, frequent communications with the community; we want to get this right for the future to ensure that we maintain a strong bond with our community going forward. We also know that 5v5 didn’t resonate with the wider audience the way we thought it might and although we are incredibly proud of the product itself it’s something that definitely split our existing player base. What we want you to know however is we are listening; we read everything that goes up online, we play the game daily and we are constantly looking to make positive changes within Vainglory. The lessons that Vainglory has taught us will continue with SEMC for our developmental life.
At SEMC we believe gamers deserve to play together in beautiful, responsive and deep AAA experiences, whichever their native platform or control mechanism. We are always looking to push the boundaries of technological capability; bringing a MOBA to the mobile platform with true touch screen controls, pushing the limits of graphical capabilities on mobile devices and bringing Vainglory to the forefront of cross-platform parity with our launch onto PC and MAC. However, we want you to be on the same page as us to be as open as possible with our community. We feel Vainglory is in a good spot as a package right now. Our goal with Vainglory development is now to refine the game. Continue to expect month to month updates; bringing balance changes, new heroes and all the regular content you have come to expect. Our main focus will be fixing existing bugs and polishing the overall gameplay; both ingame and out (sorry guys, nothing crazy like 10v10 in the works).
We actually want to let you in on an evil secret. For some time now our creative geniuses have been working hard on multiple new projects alongside Vainglory (shh!). We aren’t sharing details yet, but what we can tell you is that you may see the Vainglory universe expanding in the future, in more places than one. We also have some other surprises coming, so expect a lot of announcements over the next few months as we continue to evolve the way we work and release content. Keep your eyes peeled this coming Winter for some big news and your chance to get involved in the future fun.
Vainglory has been an amazing journey so far and we intend to continue to support and care for Vainglory as much as we did before – especially as we continue to focus on China as an emerging market for the game. We just wanted to share our plans with you, our community, and to let you know about some of the exciting things we have in store as well as reflect on some of the lessons we have learnt throughout the development of our first title.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all the support over the years.
